The Moon will shrink - date named
This Saturday, April 12, Earth's inhabitants will be able to observe an unusual astronomical phenomenon - a micromoon.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to The Associated Press, this evening the full moon will appear to Earth observers in a slightly less familiar form: a bit smaller and dimmer in brightness than usual.
A micromoon is the opposite of the more well-known supermoon. If during a supermoon our natural satellite approaches Earth closer than usual and appears slightly larger and brighter, then during a micromoon, the Moon is, conversely, at the maximum distance from our planet in its orbit.
Although it will be quite difficult to notice the difference with the naked eye, as the changes in size and brightness are very subtle, it is still a rare and curious astronomical event. To see the micromoon, it's enough to go outside on Saturday evening and find a place with a good view of the sky.
Interestingly, such phenomena occur several times a year, when the full moon phase coincides with certain parts of its orbit. Thus, the next micromoon is expected in May. And in the fall, we will witness three consecutive supermoons - in October, November, and December.
