OpenAI introduced a new in-ChatGPT shopping feature, which is currently only available to users in the US. Now you can order products directly from sellers on Etsy without visiting third-party websites.

The Instant Checkout service works based on the open Agentic Commerce Protocol, developed by OpenAI in partnership with Stripe. All purchasing stages - product selection, delivery address confirmation, and payment - are performed directly in the chatbot.

The company charges sellers a commission on transactions, however, its amount is not disclosed. OpenAI emphasizes that additional fees do not affect the final cost for buyers. For now, users can only place orders for one item at a time. In the future, there are plans to implement a shopping cart for multiple items, as well as integration with other trading platforms. Shopify will be the next one on the list.

When the feature will become available outside the US is still unknown.

According to CNBC, the announcement had a noticeable effect on the stock market: Etsy shares rose by 13%, while Shopify's stock price increased by 5%.
