The law "On Registration of Foreign Agents" has entered into force in Georgia.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Sputnik-Georgia", according to the new document, not only legal entities created on the basis of foreign capital will be considered foreign agents and subject to criminal liability, but also anyone who does not comply with its requirements.

The scope of the law includes representatives of foreign state authorities or political parties operating abroad, persons residing outside the borders of Georgia, advertising agents participating in the political life of the country, employees of information services, as well as individuals or legal entities participating in the activities of a foreign organization as advisors.

According to the law, those who are engaged in fundraising that will serve the interests of a foreign organization will also have the status of a "foreign agent".

This term will not apply to broadcasting companies, media outlets, or associations established and registered in Georgia.

Non-compliance with the law will be punishable by a fine ranging from 1,800 to 3,600 US dollars.
