Media: Ukraine rejected the latest proposal on Donbas, negotiations reach deadlock
Creating a demilitarized economic zone in Donbas is an unrealistic idea. Especially in the format of a joint Ukrainian-Russian administration.
This is reported by the UNIAN agency with reference to the Kyiv Independent.
The publication recalls that during the last round of negotiations in Geneva on February 17-18, Kyiv and Moscow discussed the idea of a joint Russian-Ukrainian civilian administration to manage a demilitarized zone in Donbas. The proposal envisions the withdrawal of both Russian and Ukrainian troops from Donbas.
According to an informed source of the Kyiv Independent, this bizarre proposal was put forward by representatives of the American delegation, who continue to cling to the role of a neutral mediator. However, Ukrainian officials who spoke with journalists cannot even imagine simply a demilitarized zone in Donbas, let alone a joint civilian administration.
