In Russia, they intend to completely replace YouTube
Russian services will completely replace the video hosting platform YouTube in the medium term.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin in an interview at the media forum of the International Club of People's Unity at the TASS venue.
He noted that when YouTube entered the Russian market, it took a dominant monopoly position in the video hosting market.
"Today we are trying to correct this situation, we are developing our own alternatives and are confident that in the medium term we will completely replace YouTube, which, unfortunately, has become a propaganda weapon," the deputy said in an interview with American journalist Larry Johnson, a former employee of the CIA and the US State Department.
According to him, Western countries are very actively using this service in the information war.
In the summer of 2024, Russia launched a systematic policy of slowing down YouTube, which by autumn forced the majority of users to resort to certain services to view content. It's worth noting that the restrictions were implemented unevenly, and some internet providers continued to provide relatively stable access.
