German MP expelled from Bundestag over beret
German "Left" party deputy Marcel Bauer was expelled from the Bundestag (unicameral parliament of Germany) session hall for refusing to remove his black beret. This was reported by Bild publication.
The incident occurred when the 33-year-old politician's headwear provoked the indignation of 53-year-old Bundestag Vice-Chair Andrea Lindholz. She demanded that Bauer immediately remove his beret, but after receiving a refusal, she ordered the deputy's expulsion from the plenary session. According to the strict dress code of the Bundestag, wearing headgear is permitted exclusively for religious reasons or when there are medical indications.
Notably, Bauer's departure was accompanied by thunderous applause from deputies of the conservative "CDU/CSU" bloc (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Socialist Union), which emphasized the political subtext of the incident.
