Baka elected new president of Hungary

The Parliament of Hungary has elected former President of the Supreme Court of Hungary András Baka as the new president of the country.

This was reported by the local newspaper Népszava.

According to the information, he received 140 votes "in favor," 6 votes "against," and 0 abstentions.

A. Baka took the presidential oath after his election. He will take office on August 19, and until that moment, the duties of the President of the Republic will be performed by Ágnes Forsthoffer, Speaker of the National Assembly.

It should be noted that Baka served as President of the Supreme Court of Hungary from 2009 to 2011, and from 1991 to 2007 he was a judge of the European Court of Human Rights.

His candidacy was the only one for the post of president. Representatives of the ruling Fidesz party did not participate in the vote. There were no other candidates.
