A class X1.2 solar flare occurred on the Sun.

As reported by RBC, this was announced by the Russian Institute of Applied Geophysics (FSBI "IPG").

"On May 13 at 18:38 Moscow time (19:38 Baku time - ed.) an X1.2 flare lasting 19 minutes was registered in the X-ray range in sunspot group 4079 (N07W81)", - the message states.

Solar flares are divided into five categories according to the intensity of X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M and X. Class X includes super-powerful flares that can cause severe geomagnetic storms.

According to the space weather forecast from the institute, on May 13 and 14, solar activity will be characterized as low to moderate, with possible X-class flares. The geomagnetic field is calm, and the radiation environment is undisturbed. Deterioration of shortwave radio communication conditions is possible during the day.
