A strong earthquake struck the Philippines: many dead

At least 12 people were killed and more than 200 were injured as a result of an earthquake in the Philippines.

In the city of General Santos, seven people were killed and about 130 were injured. Five more people fell victim to the disaster in the provinces of Davao Occidental and South Cotabato.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 was recorded on Monday morning, June 8, south of the island of Mindanao. According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter was at a depth of 55 km. Powerful tremors caused the collapse of several buildings in the city of General Santos. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology had issued a tsunami warning.
