A shell exploded above the motorcade of the US Vice President Vance

In the USA, a disturbing incident occurred during the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps, when a 155-millimeter shell unexpectedly exploded above the route along which US Vice President JD Vance's motorcade was traveling.
According to information published in the New York Times, the explosion happened over a busy highway connecting California's largest cities - Los Angeles and San Diego. The consequences could have been catastrophic.
Fragments from the exploded shell damaged a motorcycle from the vice president's security detail, as well as a highway patrol vehicle. Fortunately, human casualties were avoided.
According to updated information, the fateful artillery shot was fired at 1:46 PM local time from White Beach, located just one kilometer from the traffic-heavy highway. After the premature explosion of the shell, all planned shooting exercises were immediately stopped.
As a result of the dangerous incident, security personnel accompanying the US Vice President were not injured, which can be considered a real stroke of luck.
As the New York Times notes, California Governor Gavin Newsom had expressed concern in advance and objected to plans for conducting artillery fire over the busy highway. However, military department representatives insisted on the safety of this event for road users, which ultimately proved to be a rash assurance.
