A couple in England found a German World War II bunker under their house, reports the New York Post.

Sean Tullier and his wife Caroline moved into a house on Guernsey in 2021, unaware that beneath their feet lay an entire system of secret rooms extending about eight meters underground. The discovery happened completely by accident - several years after moving in, when Sean, who works as a carpenter, was selling wooden boards on social media.

A woman who previously lived in the house saw his advertisement and asked if he had found "secret rooms in the property." This message intrigued Sean, so he asked his correspondent what she meant. The former owner replied that as a child she used to play in underground rooms located at the front of the house. Later, her father filled these rooms with soil.

Armed with an excavator, Sean and his friend removed about 100 tons of earth until they discovered a collapsed opening leading into darkness.

"The ground just caved in - and we saw a doorway," he recounts.

Inside were several rooms and a corridor. The bunker preserved traces of past life: old bottles, tin cans, tiled floor, water supplies, and even an emergency exit.

However, the most interesting artifact was an inscription on the wall in German: "Achtung - Feind hört mit!" ("Caution - the enemy is listening!").

Guernsey, like other Channel Islands, was occupied by Nazi Germany from June 1940 to May 1945. By Hitler's order, the islands were transformed into part of the "Atlantic Wall" - a powerful defensive line, with thousands of bunkers, concrete fortifications, and minefields. However, after the war, most such structures were deliberately filled with concrete or disguised by locals eager to forget the difficult past.

"I knew there were bunkers all over the island, but to find one right under the house? It's like something out of science fiction," says Sean.

Eventually, the couple decided to restore the bunker, turning it into a unique basement space. They are currently working on renovations - their plans include: a games area with a snooker table, a gym, and a relaxation zone.
