Robot surgeon performed a unique operation on a child

Irkutsk surgeons performed a unique operation: using a robot, they removed a cyst from the intestine of a five-year-old child.

Thanks to the cyber-assistant, it's possible to make a minimal incision and apply sutures without excessive blood loss in a confined space. This is precisely why the robot is used.

The surgeon sits nearby during the procedure and controls the robot's movements using a joystick. The entire operation took about 40 minutes, and recovery will take no more than three days.

Similar systems exist in only a few hospitals across the country, and all of them are for adults. This is the first time a surgical robot has appeared in a pediatric facility.
