Named tests that can be taken without fasting

Strict fasting before tests is not always required. Only certain types of examinations need to be done exclusively in the morning hours and on an empty stomach, Marina Bezrukova, head of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of the "Be Healthy" clinic network, told "Gazeta.Ru".
"Glycemic tests, gastropanel, and lipid profile with established hypertriglyceridemia - these are the studies that truly require strict morning fasting. For most other tests, a four-hour break from eating is sufficient, and some can even be taken after eating," the expert explained.
According to the specialist, biochemical analysis, complete blood count, and hemostasis indicators do not require complete fasting, but it is recommended to abstain from food for at least four hours before the procedure. Particularly interesting is that genetic testing can be conducted at any time of day and regardless of food intake.
"Genetic material remains unchanged regardless of what you ate or what time of day you take the test. The same applies to tumor markers, autoimmune markers, allergy tests, and infection markers - they are not tied to the time of day and strict fasting," noted Bezrukova.
Regarding hormonal studies, the doctor recommends taking them predominantly in the morning hours, before 10-11 o'clock, since hormone levels depend on the body's circadian rhythms. At the same time, a minimum 4-hour fast is also necessary. The only exception is the hCG hormone, which can be tested at any time - it is usually determined when pregnancy is suspected.
"It's important to remember that if you need to track laboratory results over time, it's better to do this in the same laboratory. This will help exclude possible variations in research methods and provide a more accurate picture of changes," the specialist emphasized.
