Famous Spanish dietitian Marta Figueras urged the population to definitely include melon in their summer diet for effective prevention of cardiovascular diseases and a number of other dangerous ailments. The expert shared her recommendations in an interview with the popular Spanish publication 20minutos.
"Melon contains adenosine - a substance that helps prevent blood clots, angina, and stroke. This product is a source of ascorbic acid and vitamin B, which helps relax the nervous system. All these benefits help the heart function better and protect it," explained Figueras.
In turn, specialists from the Barcelona Ophthalmological Center at the Catalan Institute of Retinal Health stated that melon reduces the risk of developing several vision problems, including cataracts, due to the fact that it contains a large amount of vitamin C. At the same time, cantaloupe melon is rich in beta-carotene - this substance is beneficial for the prevention of asthma, the experts concluded.
