A simple way to lower blood pressure and protect the heart has been identified
The National Hypertension Working Group of Australia has recommended replacing regular salt with potassium-containing salt, noting that this is one of the simplest and most proven ways to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was published in the journal Journal of Hypertension (JH).
Potassium-containing salt partially replaces sodium chloride with potassium chloride (typically in a 75:25 ratio), which simultaneously reduces sodium intake - the main factor in increasing blood pressure - and replenishes the potassium deficiency common in most modern diets. Large clinical studies show that such salt lowers blood pressure, reduces the number of cardiovascular complications, and decreases mortality.
Experts note that decades of recommendations to reduce salt consumption have not led to significant changes: sodium intake levels still remain almost twice the norm. Therefore, switching to potassium-containing salt is seen as the most realistic measure capable of having an effect at the population level.
Scientists point out the need to consider contraindications, such as kidney diseases and certain types of therapy, but emphasize: for the vast majority of people, this is a safe solution and an important part of the strategy to combat hypertension.
