Changes have been made to the format of the Azerbaijan Football Cup

The format of the 2025/2026 Azerbaijan Football Cup season has been announced.

This was reported to Report by the Director of Media and Marketing of the Professional Football League (PFL) Sanan Abdullayev.

He reminded that the main change in the tournament is related to the final match.

"Taking into account the experience of other countries, we decided to hold the final match at an earlier date - May 13. Teams from all leagues will participate in the cup competitions," the official noted.

S. Abdullayev reported that representatives of League II will start the season in the Azerbaijan Cup from an early stage.

"Then the winners will be joined by teams from League I and those who finished the last Premier League season in lower positions. At the next stage, we will see clubs that occupied the top positions in the Premier League also joining the competition. Last season's winner 'Sabah' will be in the 1st pot during the draw. Teams will compete under Premier League conditions. That is, for example, participants of League I will be able to use all their foreign players in the main squad," he added.

It should be noted that in the final of the Azerbaijan Cup last season, "Sabah" defeated "Karabakh" with a score of 3:2 in extra time after a draw (2:2) in regular time.
