Snowfall in Istanbul may reach Baku

Strong winds with blizzard and snowfall, turning into wet snow in some areas, are expected in Istanbul from noon on February 6 until the morning of February 7.

As reported by Baku.ws, this information comes from the Turkish General Directorate of Meteorology.

Meteorologists forecast moderate to heavy precipitation in the form of snow and wet snow in various areas of the city. Adverse weather conditions may lead to transport delays, road icing in elevated areas, and reduced visibility.

Due to strong winds and intermittent blizzards, there is a risk of roof damage and falling trees. Turkish Airlines has already canceled several flights to Istanbul Airport for today and tomorrow.

Possible Impact on Baku

The impact of Istanbul's snowfall on Baku's weather will depend on the direction of air mass movement. If the cyclone moves eastward across the Black Sea towards Azerbaijan, snowfall is also possible in Baku.

However, snow cyclones from Istanbul most often shift southward or towards Eastern Europe, without directly affecting the weather in Baku. The climate of the Azerbaijani capital is more influenced by the Siberian anticyclone and humid flows from the Caspian Sea.
