In Azerbaijan, a mother of two was driven to suicide: the woman left a note

In Ismayilli district, Elkhan Shikhiev was convicted of driving 40-year-old Gulsum Osmanova to suicide (name and surname are conditional - ed.).

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Qafqazinfo, E.Shikhiev (born 1988) was found guilty under Articles 125, 157.2 and 221.2.2 of the Criminal Code (driving to suicide; violation of home inviolability; hooliganism).

The investigation showed that the relationship between G.Osmanova and E.Shikhiev began back in 2011. The woman's children were taught by the accused's mother, who worked as a teacher. At that time, the deceased was married, and E.Shikhiev was also married. However, after some time, the woman declared her intention to end the relationship but faced the use of force from her "lover".

E.Shikhiev once even came to her workplace, a beauty salon, and attacked her in the presence of visitors. The woman reported the incident to the Ismayilli District Police Department on the same day.

On the same day, G.Osmanova was called to the police station, but due to the emotional stress she experienced and fear that her secret relationship would become public knowledge, she hanged herself in her home.

A suicide note was found at the scene: "The reason for my death is Elkhan, he threatened me... No one else is to blame. My relatives, forgive me, I could no longer look you in the eyes. I love you very much. Goodbye".

On the back of the paper, the words were also written: "My clients are witnesses to this incident".

Two days after the tragedy, E.Shikhiev, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, came to G.Osmanova's house where the mourning ceremony was taking place. He insisted on seeing her, refusing to believe that the woman had died. At this time, the relatives of the deceased called the police, and Elkhan was detained. However, he was later released during the investigation.

In court, G.Osmanova's family demanded the strictest punishment for the accused.

On March 4, the Ismayilli District Court sentenced Elkhan Shikhiev to 6 years and 6 months of imprisonment. He was arrested in the courtroom.
