Deputy: Increase in violence against women is observed worldwide
Changes to the law on domestic violence are needed.
BAKU.WS reports, citing report, that Tamam Jafarova, a member of the Family, Women and Children's Affairs Committee of the Milli Majlis, said this at today's committee meeting.
She emphasized that there are concerning news about female homicides:
"In 2024, fewer female homicides were recorded compared to the previous year. However, this still remains a problem. Almost every week, or every 10 days, news about women being murdered is spread. It is very unfortunate that sometimes women become victims of men who are family members or those they live with. Even teenage boys kill their mothers, and fathers kill their daughters. This needs to be discussed very seriously."
According to the deputy, this negative trend is generally expanding worldwide:
"Based on what I read in the press, in Italy, they are discussing life imprisonment for crimes against women committed on domestic grounds. It could be very beneficial to hold a public hearing on this issue in the Milli Majlis."
