Azerbaijan exposes blackmail scheme using intimate footage

In Baku, a man was detained who obtained intimate images of citizens through fake TikTok accounts and extorted money from them.

This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the department, Shamil Fatullayev, born in 1998, created fake female profiles, used them to establish close contact with government employees and other users whom he selected as victims, after which he threatened to distribute intimate images obtained from them. The extortion amounts started from 700 manats and higher.

As a result of an investigation conducted by the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Fatullayev was detained and held accountable. He was charged under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan for extortion, and the court chose detention as a preventive measure.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged citizens to be careful and recommended that users immediately contact the police in case of threats or blackmail.

Dozens of victims are involved in the criminal case.
