Today is the anniversary of the death of Mammad Amin Rasulzade
On this day, 71 years ago, Mammad Amin Rasulzade passed away.
As reported by BAKU.WS, one of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) Mammad Amin Rasulzade died on March 6, 1955, at the clinic of the Faculty of Medicine of Ankara University in Turkey.
He was born on January 31, 1884, in the village of Novkhani. In 1904, he participated in the creation of the "Hummet" organization. Fearing persecution by the tsarist regime, in 1909 Rasulzade left Baku and emigrated to Iran, where in 1910 he founded the Democratic Party of that country.
For some time he worked in Iran as the editor-in-chief of the newspapers "Iran-e Now" and "Iran-e Ahat". In 1917, Rasulzade was elected as a deputy of the Russian State Duma representing Azerbaijan and Turkestan, and in the same year he became the leader of the "Musavat" party.
On May 27, 1918, he was elected by a majority vote as the chairman of the Azerbaijan National Council. Thus, the government of the ADR, the first republic in the East, was established, headed by Fatali Khan Khoyski.
After the Bolsheviks came to power in 1920, Rasulzade left Azerbaijan, and from 1932 the period of his activities in Europe began. During that period, he published the newspaper İstiqlal and the journal Qurtuluş in Germany, and in Poland he established the Azerbaijan National Publishing House, where he published the book "Azerbaijan and Its Independence".
On his deathbed, Rasulzade uttered the word "Azerbaijan" three times. He is buried at the Asri Cemetery in Ankara.
On December 29, 1993, President Heydar Aliyev signed a decree "On the celebration of the 110th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding social and political figure of Azerbaijan Mammad Amin Rasulzade".
On November 22, 2013, President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the celebration of the 130th anniversary of Mammad Amin Rasulzade. In accordance with the decree, a number of jubilee events were held in the republic and abroad.
