Professional holiday of prosecution workers is celebrated in Azerbaijan
In Azerbaijan, October 1 marks the professional holiday of prosecution service workers.
Today marks the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the prosecution authorities.
By the decree of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic dated October 1, 1918, the prosecutor's office was established as part of the Baku District Court.
National leader Heydar Aliyev signed a decree on July 17, 1998, on the celebration of October 1 as the professional holiday of prosecution service workers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Constitution adopted in 1995 defined the status of the prosecutor's office and recognized it as a unified body with centralized territorial and specialized prosecutor's offices subordinated to the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In accordance with the Law "On the Prosecutor's Office" dated December 7, 1999, in the manner and cases provided by law, the supervision of the execution and enforcement of laws, the investigation of criminal cases and the procedure of preliminary investigation, supervision of the execution and application of laws in investigation, inquiry and operational-search activities, the prosecution of state charges in criminal proceedings, as well as participation in ensuring the enforcement of sentences imposed by courts were entrusted to the prosecutor's office.
In accordance with the referendum law "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan," which came into force on September 19, 2002, the prosecutor's office also received the right of legislative initiative.
