First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, and her daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva visited the Shah Abbas and Huseyniya mosques in Ganja city.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to AZERTAC, the mosque's imam Iskender Mammadov informed the First Vice-President about the Shah Abbas Mosque.

It was noted that the mosque was built in 1606 by order of the Safavid ruler Shah Abbas I based on the project of architect Sheikh Bahaddin Muhammad Amil. The Shah Abbas Mosque, or Ganja Juma Mosque, is located on the left bank of the Ganjachay River, in the historical center of Ganja. It was built in the 17th century Arran architectural style.

This historical mosque, thanks to its architectural composition, layout, constructive and artistic-decorative features, preserves the traditions of medieval Azerbaijani portal-dome architecture. The rich traditions of architecture were successfully used in the building's architecture, especially in the design of the dome and portals. At the same time, this historical-religious monument reflects the laconicism and expressiveness characteristic of the Arran architectural school.

It was reported that in 2008, on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, restoration and repair works were carried out in the mosque. During the inspection of the mosque, further instructions were given to preserve this historical-religious monument.

The First Vice-President, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva and her daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva were presented with the Holy Quran as a gift.

During the familiarization with the current state of the Huseyniya mosque, it was reported that this religious monument, built in the 19th century, is also known as the Tat mosque. The religious center functioned as a madrasah and later as a mosque. Currently, this historical-religious monument needs repair and restoration work.

During the inspection of the mosque, instructions were given to carry out appropriate works here.

Note that within the framework of the "Address of Tolerance - Azerbaijan" project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which attaches special importance to preserving traditions of tolerance in our country, where representatives of all religions and ethnic groups live as one family in conditions of friendship and harmony, repair and restoration of religious monuments, shrines and places of worship are carried out, and exhibitions on this topic are organized.
