On June 17, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received member of the U.S. House of Representatives Abraham Hamadeh, who is on a visit to our country.

As reported by the MFA of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during the meeting, views were exchanged on the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral Azerbaijani-American relations, regional, international and energy security, transport and communication links, as well as the current situation in the South Caucasus in the post-conflict period.

The head of the Azerbaijani foreign policy agency emphasized the significance of the Summit held in Washington last August for bilateral and regional ties, noting that the historic agreements reached within its framework facilitated the transition of relations between the two countries to a qualitatively new stage. It was noted that the Charter on Strategic Partnership signed between Azerbaijan and the United States created an important foundation for the further expansion of cooperation in such areas as political dialogue, economic interaction, security and energy security.

In addition, it was stated that the Azerbaijani-American Dialogue on Economic Cooperation was held for the first time, within the framework of which 10 cooperation documents were signed, covering trade, investment, energy, transport, digital development and other areas.

During the meeting, the significance of the implementation of the TRIPP project was noted, which will contribute to strengthening transport and communication links in the region and creating unimpeded connectivity between the mainland of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

During the discussion of prospects for the further development of Azerbaijani-American relations, the importance of removing existing restrictions in bilateral cooperation was highlighted. In this regard, it was emphasized that the full repeal of Section 907, which restricts the provision of U.S. government assistance to Azerbaijan, would be consistent with the spirit of the strategic partnership between the two countries and would contribute to the further expansion of cooperation in the areas of security, energy, transport, economy and regional stability.

It was stated that the said amendment is essentially reflective of an outdated approach and does not correspond to the current geopolitical realities, nor to the current level of partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States.

During the conversation, the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia was also discussed. The Minister provided his interlocutor with detailed information on the progress of the Azerbaijani-Armenian normalization process, as well as on the restoration and construction work being carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
