The initiative of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to declare amnesty will affect more than 20 thousand people.

As reported by BAKU.WS, it is expected that more than 5 thousand convicts will be released from serving prison sentences, and for more than 3 thousand persons sentenced to imprisonment, the terms of punishment will be reduced.

In addition, about 7 thousand convicts will be released from punishment in the form of restriction of freedom, about 4 thousand – from other punishments not related to imprisonment, or from conditionally applied punishments. It is also expected that more than a thousand people will be exempted from criminal liability.

It is assumed that the act of amnesty, presented by the President of Azerbaijan to the Milli Mejlis, will be the largest in the country's history in terms of the number of persons to whom it will be applied, including convicts who will be released from punishment in the form of imprisonment.
