At COP30, a high-level event was held dedicated to the decline of the Caspian Sea level
In Brazil's Belen, a joint declaration was adopted to strengthen cooperation in addressing the problem of declining levels of the Caspian Sea.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to AZERTAJ, the document was adopted at a high-level event dedicated to this issue at the Azerbaijani pavilion within the framework of COP30.
It emphasizes that the Caspian countries continue to fulfill their previous obligations stipulated in the Baku Declaration, adopted last year at COP29 in Azerbaijan. It is noted that the Baku Declaration created a foundation for scientific cooperation, information exchange, and coordinated activities, and the new joint document adopted at COP30 serves to continue efforts in this direction.
The document reflects the goals of strengthening cooperation in scientific research, monitoring and data exchange, as well as the common intention to promote joint activities with the UN and take joint steps to ensure sustainable development and long-term stability of the Caspian region.
The event was organized on the initiative of the Azerbaijani side with the joint participation of the COP29 chairmanship, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the Interim Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention).
