WUF13 turned Baku into one of the key platforms of global urban development policy
Baku has become one of the main platforms for political dialogue on issues of urbanization, housing security, and sustainable development. The World Urban Forum (WUF13), which brought together more than 57,000 participants from 176 countries, stood out not only for its scale but also for the decisions adopted.
The forum opened a new chapter in the history of Azerbaijan's capital. One of the most notable moments was that the topic of urban development for the first time went beyond purely technical discussions and was elevated to the level of political leaders. The Leaders' Statement Session, organized on the initiative of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, introduced a new format to the global urbanization agenda.
This approach demonstrated that the future of cities today is linked not only to architecture and infrastructure but also to issues of security, economics, climate, and social stability.
During the forum, special attention was given to the recovery policy being implemented by Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period. New settlements built in the territories liberated from occupation, "smart city" and "smart village" projects, as well as other ecological approaches were assessed by international participants as an example of a modern recovery model.
