Today is the birthday of martyr journalist Siraj Abyshov

Today marks the birthday of Azerbaijan State Television (AzTV) cameraman, martyr Siraj Abyshov, who was killed in the now-liberated Kalbajar district while performing his professional duties.

As BAKU.WS reminds, S. Abyshov was born on August 29, 1989, in the city of Gubadly, Azerbaijan SSR.

During the first Karabakh war, Siraj and his family were forced to leave their home and move to Sumgayit. In 2019, he began working at AzTV.

S. Abyshov presented viewers with video footage of Azerbaijani territories liberated during the 44-day Patriotic War. On June 4, 2021, a vehicle carrying employees of television channels and news agencies who had been sent on assignment to the Kalbajar district of Azerbaijan struck an anti-tank mine in the direction of the village of Susuzlug.

As a result, AzTV cameraman Siraj Abyshov, AZERTAJ news agency employee Magarram Ibragimov, and deputy representative of the Kalbajar district Executive Authority for the administrative-territorial district of Susuzlug village Arif Aliyev were killed, while four other people sustained injuries of varying severity and were hospitalized.

S. Abyshov was buried on June 5, 2021, at the Alley of Martyrs in the city of Sumgayit.

By decree of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Siraj Abysh oglu Abyshov was awarded the order of Vətənə xidmətə görə ("For Service to the Motherland") 3rd class. By order of the head of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription, Colonel General Arzu Ragimov, the fallen journalists S. Abyshov and M. Ibragimov were posthumously awarded the medal "For Merit in Military-Patriotic Education."

On June 9, 2021, the names of AzTV cameraman Siraj Abyshov and AZERTAJ employee Magarram Ibragimov were engraved on the stele of the memorial complex created in memory of the martyrs of the national press on the premises of the CJSC "Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting."
