What is behind the Syrian president's visit to Russia?

During the rule of Bashar al-Assad, Syria had close ties with Russia. In fact, it became an ally of Moscow.
Such a statement was made by Azerbaijani deputy Rasim Musabekov.
According to him, Russia made significant efforts to maintain the Assad regime.
"After the possible fall of the Assad regime, Russia will not be able to supply weapons to this country or provide financial support. It only has military bases there. Syria, in turn, seeks to build balanced relations with Russia. In this context, the preservation of Russian bases in Syria is considered acceptable for both countries," added the parliamentarian.
