Trump revealed what is really behind the war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump, speaking to journalists at the White House, suggested that discussions about Ukraine's possible NATO membership could have provoked the conflict with Russia.

Trump noted that the topic of Ukraine's NATO membership was never raised in the context of negotiations about mineral extraction. "This issue, first of all, was never discussed. Secondly, I believe that even before Putin, it was said that Ukraine would not join NATO. Perhaps this is what caused the war," the American leader stated.

The US President once again emphasized that Ukraine will not become part of the North Atlantic Alliance. He added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is striving for this but realizes the unfeasibility of such plans.

Previously, Trump had already ruled out the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO, stating that Kyiv's membership in the alliance as an element of crisis resolution was out of the question. Presidential advisor Mike Waltz also confirmed that the US does not consider Ukraine as a NATO member.

In February, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte abandoned previous promises about including Ukraine in the alliance, noting that this was never part of a peace agreement.
