The arrest of the Armenian Catholicos's brother has been extended
Court in Armenia extended the arrest of the brother of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II for another two months. The investigation charges Gevorg Nersisyan with hooliganism and obstruction of a campaign.
As reported by BAKU.WS, Nersisyan's lawyer Ara Zograbyan told TASS about this.
"The Armavir Region Court extended the arrest of the Catholicos's brother Gevorg Nersisyan for another two months," the agency's source said, adding that an obviously illegal decision was made.
On November 3, 2025, an Armenian court issued a decision to imprison the brother and nephew of the Catholicos, Gevorg and Ambartzum Nersisyan, for a month. They were charged based on a Facebook post published by Harutyun Mkrtchyan, a candidate for mayor of Vagharshapat from the "Republic" party. According to Mkrtchyan, on November 1, Gevorg Nersisyan and his sons obstructed the campaign conducted ahead of the local government elections in the enlarged community of Vagharshapat in Armavir region, scheduled for November 16. This article carries a punishment of three to six years of imprisonment. Subsequently, the arrests of the accused were extended again. On November 17 last year, the case with the indictment was sent to court.
