Russian scientists have discovered a large coronal hole on the Sun's surface, characterized by decreased temperature and plasma density. Specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of IKI RAS and ISFZ RAS warn about possible consequences of this phenomenon for our planet.

According to experts' forecasts, the solar wind speed may reach record levels. "The edge of the fast solar wind stream is expected today in the second half of the day. Tomorrow, the plasma speed may almost double - up to 600-700 kilometers per second," researchers report.

The impact of the coronal hole on Earth will last approximately until February 16. Weather-sensitive people should be particularly mindful of their health - headaches, weakness, and drowsiness are possible. Astrophysicists note that it is currently difficult to determine the exact intensity of the upcoming magnetic storms.
