Scientists have calculated the year when the sharp increase in life expectancy stopped

At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a steady increase in average life expectancy, however after 1939 the dynamics slowed down. This is stated in a study published by the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
If previously each new generation born lived approximately half a year longer than its predecessor, now this difference has decreased to just a couple of months. However, scientists emphasize that the situation may change under the influence of unforeseen factors, such as new medical discoveries, a pandemic, or serious socio-economic changes.
Historically, the sharp decline in child mortality was the main factor accelerating life expectancy in the first half of the 20th century. Today, child mortality is at a historic low, and further improvements in adult health no longer provide a significant effect.
