Scandal in Peru: Bishop suspected of having relationships with 17 women asks for resignation

In Peru, Bishop Ciro Quispe Lopez found himself at the center of a scandal after being suspected of having 17 mistresses. He resigned when the women discovered each other and nearly got into a fight during an argument, reports The Times.
According to the publication, the 51-year-old Lopez submitted his resignation to the Pope after the situation became public knowledge.
The Vatican initiated an investigation, during which three alleged mistresses and the bishop's cleaner were questioned. The latter described what she had seen in his bedroom and gave testimony that shed light on the situation. According to case materials, many women were afraid to admit to having affairs with Lopez, fearing his reaction.
The incident came to light after the bishop mistakenly sent photographs and videos intended for his mistresses to his cleaner. The woman immediately reported the incident to the Catholic Church.
Lopez himself denies the accusations, claiming that he has become a victim of a smear campaign, which he says is orchestrated by "dark forces."
