Russian man set fire to a gas station after being denied access to the toilet

In Surgut (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug), a man received a criminal sentence for attempting to set fire to a gas station where he was not allowed to use the toilet. This was reported by URA.ru with reference to the court verdict, which is available to the publication.
According to the case materials, a drunk man entered the gas station, bought tea, and then asked to use the restroom. The gas station employee explained that the toilet for visitors was located outside and directed him there. After being refused, the man became angry.
"He approached the fuel pump, took the nozzle and tried to set it on fire – the flame flared up but immediately went out," the verdict states.
According to the media, the fire was quickly extinguished. The gas station employee noticed what was happening in time, ran to the pump, and knocked the intoxicated man to the ground.
During the hearing, the defendant tried to justify himself by saying that he was very drunk and could hardly reconstruct the chain of events that evening.
Alcohol intoxication during the crime was recognized as an aggravating factor. The man had to undergo treatment for addiction and register with authorities. The offender was found guilty of attempted deliberate destruction of property due to hooliganism.
The court sentenced the Surgut resident to a year and a half of suspended imprisonment.
