The Garrison Military Court sentenced the former deputy head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Colonel-General Khalil Arslanov, to 17 years in prison on charges of bribery and fraud.

"The court found Arslanov Kh.A. guilty under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale), Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale) and sentenced him to imprisonment for a term of 17 years to be served in a strict regime colony," the verdict read in court stated.

Arslanov was also fined twice the amount of the bribe. The fine amounted to more than 24 million rubles (about 520,000 manats - ed.).
