Russia included in EU black list for money laundering
The decision to include Russia in the EU money laundering blacklist has entered into force on Thursday.
This was reported by the press service of the EU Council.
"The decision to include Russia in the money laundering blacklist came into force on January 29 after no objections were raised by EU member states," the press service said. This decision was made by the European Commission in December 2025, and it came into force through the so-called silence procedure in the EU Council.
This blacklist imposes additional obligations on European banks to control any transactions related to the countries included in it. It also allows the EU to put pressure on foreign states to tighten control over financial operations with countries included in the blacklist.
