Hundreds of people detained in France during mass protests
In France, mass protest rallies on October 17 escalated into riots and clashes with law enforcement. As a result, 855 people were detained.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was announced by the head of the Paris police, Patrice Faure, on his page on the social network X.
According to him, aggressively disposed demonstrators, including representatives of far-left movements, participated in the clashes with police. At the same time, Faure highly praised the actions of police officers, gendarmerie, and firefighters, emphasizing that they performed their duties in an exemplary manner.
"The law has prevailed," he wrote.
Earlier, the BFMTV television channel, citing France's largest trade union association — the General Confederation of Labour — reported that on October 17, more than 500 thousand people took to the streets of French cities. The participants of the rallies protested against rising fuel prices and the decline in the population's purchasing power.
In a number of major cities, including Paris, Marseille, Nice, Lyon, and Lille, the demonstrations were accompanied by clashes with police, mass riots, and looting.
