Iran's Foreign Minister: The decision on opening the Strait of Hormuz depends on the United States
Iran has transmitted a seven-day plan to the United States through Qatar to resume shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and is awaiting Washington's response.
This was reported by Al Jazeera, citing a statement by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baghdad.
"Now the decision rests with the United States," the head of Iran's Foreign Ministry stated.
Araghchi emphasized that ensuring shipping security is impossible without a change in Washington's position on the conflict.
"You cannot bomb a country, threaten its destruction, and impose sanctions against it, and then expect the restoration of shipping security," he noted.
At the same time, the minister confirmed Tehran's readiness to continue diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
"Iran will defend its people, sovereignty, and legitimate interests. However, there is no contradiction between defending our rights and striving for peace," Araghchi stressed.
According to him, Tehran is aware of the damage caused by war and attaches great importance to achieving peace.
