In 2025, every fifth resident of the European Union was at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

This is evidenced by Eurostat data.

"In 2025, 92.7 million people in the EU were at risk of poverty or social exclusion, which accounted for 20.9% of the total population," the agency's statement said.

The highest shares were recorded in the southern, eastern, and most remote regions of the EU. Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, France, and Romania were in the lead.

In five regions, the indicator was more than double the EU average. The maximum was recorded in French Guiana — 54.8% of the population. The Italian regions of Southern Italy and Sicily took second and third places with rates of 45.3% and 44%, respectively.
