After Victory Day: Kyiv prepares for a strike with "Oreshnik," USA raises the alarm

May 10, 2025, Kyiv - The situation in Ukraine has escalated again after an unexpected warning from the American embassy. On May 9, against the backdrop of Victory Day celebrations, the US diplomatic mission in Kyiv issued an emergency notification to its citizens: at the first signs of an air raid, immediately seek shelter. Such warnings, as practice shows, do not appear without reason.
Sources in Ukrainian intelligence and military circles do not rule out that this could involve the possible use of the "Oreshnik" missile - a rare and powerful weapon that was already used once last November against the "Yuzhmash" facility in Dnipro. At that time, the missile delivered a devastating strike on the strategic enterprise, causing international resonance.
💣 What is "Oreshnik"?
"Oreshnik" is the unofficial name for Russia's newest hypersonic missile, which, according to some data, was developed specifically for strikes against highly protected or symbolically significant targets. It was first used in the fall of 2024, and then did not appear in reports for a long time, which gave analysts reason to speak of its "one-time intimidation effect".
However, now that the ceasefire timed to coincide with May 9 has expired, and the US is sounding the alarm, Kyiv fears a repeat. Especially since Western satellites have detected increased activity of Russian long-range complexes in the southern regions.
⚠️ Why the alarm specifically now?
The Ukrainian side does not rule out that the strike may be timed to coincide with the end of the "symbolic ceasefire", which, according to the Kremlin's statement, lasted until the night of May 9-10. Although the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not observe it, the date itself remains historically significant - both for Russia and the West.
In addition, sources in Western diplomatic circles report that the US, Germany and France are considering the possibility of issuing an ultimatum to Russia: a temporary ceasefire in exchange for refusing to use high-precision weapons, including "Oreshnik". Moscow, in turn, has already made it clear through press secretary Dmitry Peskov: Russia will not accept any unilateral conditions.
🛰 Strategy or demonstration of power?
Many military experts note that "Oreshnik" is not needed for typical combat missions - there are "Iskanders", Iranian Shaheds, or North Korean missiles for that. But if Moscow is once again bringing out this rare weapon, it means the target will be truly important - both politically and symbolically.
Kyiv, meanwhile, has strengthened air defense around the government quarter, as well as critical energy facilities. Citizens are sharing screenshots of notifications from the American embassy on social media, which explicitly state: "Be ready to take shelter. Potential threat of a high-precision attack."
📌 What's next?
Against the backdrop of informational and military tension, May 10 could become a turning point. Or another round of escalation. Or a demonstration of power. The answer to this will be known in the next 24 hours.
