The world's largest Mars rock sold at auction for 5.3 million dollars

The largest fragment of a Martian meteorite weighing 24.5 kg was sold at an auction in New York for $5.3 million. This was reported by CNN.

It is noted that the stone was found in the Sahara in 2023. The meteorite fragment designated NWA 16788 turned out to be 70% larger than the previous record holder. How long the stone has been on Earth is unknown.

"Initially, NWA 16788 was valued at $2-4 million. The name of the buyer was not disclosed," the publication states.

There is no information on whether the stone will be in a private collection or in a museum.
