Scientists have found a natural remedy for fatty liver disease

Brazilian researchers from the University of São Paulo and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul have discovered that bergamot leaf extract can restore metabolic balance and protect the liver in obesity. The results of their work are published in the journal Food Research International.
During the experiment, laboratory rats with artificially induced obesity were given bergamot leaf extract (Citrus bergamia) for several weeks. By the end of the study, the animals showed improved lipid metabolism indicators: total cholesterol and triglyceride levels decreased, while the concentration of "good" HDL cholesterol, on the contrary, increased. Additionally, the rodents lost weight and reduced their overall fat mass.
Biochemical analysis showed that bergamot has pronounced antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The substance reduces the formation of reactive oxygen species and inflammatory cytokines in liver cells, which helps prevent the development of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease - one of the common complications of obesity.
According to the authors, bergamot leaf extract could become a promising natural remedy for the prevention of metabolic disorders. The next stage of research involves conducting clinical trials on humans, which will help determine optimal dosages and confirm the safety of the substance during long-term use.
