Doctor named four fruits to improve digestion
Kiwi, papaya, guava and slightly unripe bananas can reduce bloating and improve digestion thanks to natural enzymes and prebiotics. This was told to the Daily Mail by gastroenterologist and Harvard graduate Saurabh Sethi.
According to the specialist, these fruits contain the enzyme actinidin, which helps avoid the feeling of heaviness and lethargy after eating.
"Previous research has shown that regular consumption of two to three kiwis daily for four weeks increases the frequency of defecation and improves the overall condition of the intestines," the expert clarified.
Dr. Sethi also noted the benefits of papaya: it is rich in the enzyme papain - "a powerful natural digestive catalyst." The gastroenterologist referred to a 2024 experiment in which papain improved digestion in fish, confirming its biological activity.
The doctor called slightly unripe bananas a good source of resistant starch and pectin - types of fiber that act as prebiotics. They support the viability of beneficial intestinal bacteria and help stabilize blood sugar levels.
Guava, Sethi emphasized, is rich in fiber and vitamin C, which contribute to gentle and regular bowel movements. These substances also support the health of the microbiome - a community of bacteria that affects not only digestion but also immunity and mental state.
