Attempts to improve sexual function with "male" medications may increase the risk of heart attack in women.

Therapist Bhavini Shah told the Daily Mail about this.

According to a survey conducted by the online platform LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor, up to 40% of women in the UK report decreased libido. The survey also showed that one in ten participants tried to improve sexual function using Viagra - a drug traditionally used by men.

According to Dr. Shah, Viagra relaxes blood vessels, which increases blood flow to the penis, making it easier to maintain an erection. Some women believe they can get a similar effect, but taking such medications can be not only ineffective but also dangerous.

"To date, there is no convincing evidence that Viagra is effective for women experiencing difficulties in the sexual sphere," the therapist explained.

The doctor added that Viagra's ability to affect blood circulation may put women at increased risk of heart attack, stroke, arrhythmia, and hypotension (low blood pressure). Such side effects are more likely to occur in people with pre-existing heart conditions. Also, those who regularly take any medications should not try to use Viagra - according to the therapist, such a combination can give unexpected or even dangerous results.

"To find the causes of sexual dysfunction, physical and psychological factors need to be considered comprehensively," the doctor concluded.
