Historical MLS record: Messi first to surpass 40 goals in a season
38-year-old Lionel Messi has reached 40 goals scored since the beginning of the calendar year in all tournaments.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to euro-football.ru, the forward reached the mark of 40 goals in today's playoff match against "Nashville", but could not save "Inter Miami" from defeat (1:2). The outcome of the series will be decided in the third match.
Recall that in the first game, the star Argentine scored a double and brought a 3:1 victory. Messi became the first representative in MLS history to score 40 goals in a year in all competitions.
Previously, no one had scored more than 38 times. The third match between "Inter Miami" and "Nashville" will take place on November 9.
