The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan has begun implementing a new approach in the military service system. According to the new concept, special opportunities are being created for servicemen with high intelligence and special abilities.

According to BAKU.WS, after successfully completing the initial stage of training, these soldiers continue their service in more specialized and targeted conditions.

Thus, they are selected and sent to special units created within the National Defense University. These units take into account the scientific potential and technical skills of the servicemen, and they are involved in various projects and initiatives.

How will students (bachelors or masters) who received education abroad through state programs be selected for units created within the National Defense University? Will those selected, like other soldiers, be in quarantine for 40 days?

To find answers to these questions, we contacted the Ministry of Defense. The ministry's press service, in response to BAKU.WS's inquiry, reported that under the state program, only bachelor's and master's graduates from the top 500 universities can serve in these units when providing a certificate from the Education Quality Assurance Agency:

"All soldiers must complete the young soldier program. Military personnel of intellectual units, while remaining part of these units, will continue military service in various Main Directorates, Departments, Services, and institutions of the Ministry.

According to the new concept of military service in the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, talented servicemen with high intelligence, after completing the young soldier training program, continue military service under special conditions in units created within the National Defense University.

These servicemen are involved in various projects and activities according to their specialty in the specified units.

The intellectual units provide for the service of conscripts who are graduates of bachelor's or master's programs from foreign higher educational institutions ranked in the top 500 of international rankings ("Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings" or "Academic Ranking of World Universities" (Shanghai)) based on the results of the previous calendar year to the current calendar year.

In order to ensure service in these intellectual units for military personnel serving in military units subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, who received education in foreign educational institutions listed in the above lists, we ask their family members to send the following information to the email address [email protected]:

- first name, last name, and patronymic of the conscript;

- quarter and year of conscription (date of conscription);

- document of full recognition (academic and professional) of specialties of persons who received higher education in educational institutions of foreign countries, from the Education Quality Assurance Agency (TKTA) (in PDF format) or an extract from the system about the start of the recognition process.

Note: In order to ensure service in intellectual units for conscripts belonging to the above category who will begin service in military units subordinate to the Ministry of Defense in subsequent conscriptions, we ask their family members to send the relevant information to the email address [email protected] from the beginning of the conscription month until the end of the following month."
