Vahid Hajiyev: Freight transportation through Azerbaijan may increase by 50 million tons per year

The creation of the Zangezur corridor and the development of transport infrastructure could increase the volume of cargo transportation through Azerbaijan by approximately 50 million tons per year.

As Report conveys, this was stated by the special representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts, Vahid Hajiyev, speaking at an event dedicated to the topic "Revival and Urbicide: Sustainable Urban Development and Sustainable Communities" within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.

According to him, transport projects are a key element of the economic transformation of the liberated territories.

"The implementation of the Zangezur corridor will create a circular railway network in the region and increase Azerbaijan's annual cargo transportation capacity by approximately 50 million tons," he said.

Hajiyev noted that in parallel, a large-scale energy base based on renewable sources is being established in the region.

In particular, a 240 MW solar power plant is being built in Jabrayil, as well as another project with a capacity of 100 MW. In addition, five hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of about 45 MW are operating in the region.

"We are installing solar panels on the rooftops of houses, taking into account the high solar potential of the region," he noted.

According to him, the development of the energy sector not only meets domestic needs but also creates export potential.

Hajiyev added that an industrial park is operating in Jabrayil, where 19 residents are registered, which enhances the investment attractiveness of the region.

He also noted that the restoration of the territories includes the development of agriculture, logistics, tourism, and the mining industry.

Separately, Hajiyev emphasized the strategic role of the East–West and North–South international transport corridors, as well as the development of infrastructure, including the Horadiz–Aghband highway, the railway line, and the bridge over the Araz River, which will strengthen regional integration.

Hajiyev added that the international airport in Zangilan is already enhancing the logistics capabilities of the region and attracting investor interest.
