In Azerbaijan, Memorial Day is observed

Six years have passed since the beginning of Azerbaijan's Patriotic War.

On September 27, 2020, in response to yet another military aggression by Armenia against Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani people, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, launched the Patriotic War to liberate the occupied territories. Demonstrating heroism, our soldiers and officers, civilians in the rear, our entire nation showed determination and, uniting as one fist, dealt devastating blows to the enemy.

Many of our compatriots became martyrs, went missing, or lost their health due to injuries. Our lands were liberated at the cost of the lives and blood of our heroically fallen martyrs, soldiers and officers, and war participants. During the Patriotic War, 2,908 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan became martyrs, and 6 people are considered missing.

The enemy, unable to withstand the victorious march of the Azerbaijani army, targeted innocent civilians and committed war crimes. Azerbaijan's second largest city — the ancient Ganja with its many historical and cultural monuments, the city of Mingachevir where strategic facilities (hydroelectric power station) are located, and the city of Yevlakh (Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline), as well as Beylagan, Barda, Tartar, Gabala, Goranboy, Aghjabadi, Absheron, Khizi and other districts were subjected to strikes by ballistic missiles and other heavy artillery systems.

On September 27, 2020, as a result of an artillery shell hitting the home of Gurbanov Elbrus Isa oglu, a resident of the village of Gashalti-Garagoyunlu (city of Naftalan), 5 members of one family were killed. As a result of missile and artillery shelling of Ganja on October 4, 5, 8, 11, and 17, 26 people were killed, 175 were wounded, and enormous damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure facilities and vehicles.

As a result of missile and artillery shelling by the Armed Forces of Armenia in the Barda district, 29 people were killed, 112 were wounded, and enormous damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure facilities and vehicles. In total, as a result of Armenia's military aggression, 12 children were killed, 93 civilians including 27 women were killed, 454 civilians were wounded, and damage was inflicted on 12,292 residential and non-residential buildings, 288 vehicles, and 1,018 farms.
