President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made important statements regarding the ongoing peace process with Armenia and the Zangezur corridor, which has strategic significance for the entire Turkic world. The statements were made during panel discussions on the topic "Open Corridor Policy? Deepening Trans-Caspian Cooperation" on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

This is reported by BAKU.WS with reference to a report by Haber Global TV channel dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Germany.

"I hope that we will sign a peace agreement this year. I have already said this many times, noting that the very fact of initialing the peace agreement at the White House in the presence of the United States, plus the joint declaration that was signed by the Prime Minister of Armenia and myself, as well as President Trump as a witness, all of this is enough to say that peace has already been achieved. From August of last year to the present, we are observing an absolutely new situation on our border: there are no shootings, no casualties, no wounded, no problems," the head of state said.

The President emphasized that the exclusion of the declaration of independence from Armenia's constitution remains the only precondition for signing the peace treaty.

"I think that the very fact that TRIPP bears President Trump's name means that this corridor will be important both for this administration and, possibly, after its term ends. Otherwise, the president would not have given it his name. Naming it means that the project will be implemented. And after this name was approved, we became absolutely certain that the United States will participate in this project," the Azerbaijani leader emphasized, speaking about the Zangezur corridor.
